Why It Matters
In every life-changing Wish for children with critical illnesses and their families, there are hopes as they start to long for something to happen and make a difference; there is happiness when they find their wishes are realized; there are always what goes beyond our imagination.
The Wish impact on children with critical illnesses and their families has been recognized by healthcare professionals. By having Wish and medical treatment supplementing and complementing one another, a Make-A-Wish experience can encourage Wish Children to stay positive in the treatment and embrace the challenges arising from illnesses. To children’s families as a whole, a Wish can help replace fear and stress with hope and optimism. The earlier the children take part in the Wish Journey, the earlier they can enjoy the positive outcomes of the process.
Make-A-Wish Hong Kong was registered in Hong Kong as a charity (registration number: 91/5366) in 1998 and became a member of Make-A-Wish Foundation International, the world’s largest wish-granting organization with 39 affiliates serving over 50 countries and territories nowadays. Collectively we have realized more than 500,000 wishes worldwide since 1980.
Its mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses aged between 3 and 17, in Hong Kong and Macau, to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
A wish creates an opportunity for hope and the ability to experience life beyond illness. Serving as a supplement to medical treatment and complement one another as acknowledged by healthcare professionals, we believe that a Wish Journey – through which a child articulates, refines, and realizes his/her wish – will bring a transformative impact not just to the child concerned, but also to the child’s family as they tackle some of their most difficult trials in life. To date, Make-A-Wish Hong Kong has transformed over 2,000 children’s lives. Make-A-Wish is dedicated to making every eligible child’s wish come true.
